Unsolved Puzzles
Potential Puzzles
-
PossibleSteganography (Phase 1) - the passphrase to decipher the
jphide message picked up by
stegdetect in the picture is needed.
-
TheSevenYearItch - Margaret's been beekeeping for seven years. Dana's been helping Margaret with computers for seven years. The killer.jpg entity talks about a seven-year timespan. Possibly more than coincidence?
-
TheCookies (Phase ?) - The
ilovebees.com website is pretty simple; it doesn't need to track users or other state information, so why does it try to drop encrypted cookies?
-
EntenmannsHoneyBunz (Phase ?) - not sure if this is a puzzle, but found this today while shopping at publix. The bee logo is the same as the one on Entenmann's Honey Bunz.
-
TheRecipes (Phase 1) - it's unclear whether this is actually a puzzle or not. Recipes differ from the apparent sources of the recipes found elsewhere on the web.
-
ImageSizes (Phase 1-2) - appearance of random height/width properties of image tags. Not yet solved, proposed as a possible puzzle -TheThebruce
-
TextFormatting (Phase 1-2) - it's been pointed out in
this thread that the formatting of the text in the HTML files is very odd and may conceal a puzzle.
-
LinksOnFunStuffPage (Phase 2). Does
this text document (it is one of the linked sites at "The Sea Melissa [35]") have anything to do with this mystery? (the name Beast, Melissa and Bee are mentioned).
-
BarCodesInFirstStrike - discussion in unfiction forums about appearance of odd 'bar-code' type markings in many First Strike books, possibly code -UserThebruce 15:03, 5 Aug 2004 (PDT)

I was visiting the Bungie site and there were a few webcam shots available. Only the last one is completely black. Does someone know if it is possible to see what is on that last shot? Here is the link

In relation to the above post about the webcam pic. No amount of mucking around with the picture in Photoshop could reveal anything useful.--UserSaunderez 05:34, 16 Aug 2004 (PDT)

Just for kicks I Corelled the photo :P and the result is
here... It's just the lights out, it's not black. There's text on a poster in the back, but I have not the crazy equipment req'd to extrapolate text. IMO, JPG artifacting is so bad in low light that I'm 99% positive this is a dead end and was simply just another webcam snapshot. If anyone feels the same way, go ahead and remove these comments -UserThebruce 08:11, 16 Aug 2004 (PDT)

SourceCode - I was viewing the source code of the infected ILB site (the bit with the timer in it) and even though I haven't the slightest qlue what it all means, it interested me to see that the text for the timer was named 'Countdowntochina.js'. I haven't seen any comments on it, so I thought I would mention it here. In my opinion, this could have two meanings:
1) The timer is on China time, or 2) The timer is counting of to an event that will happen in China when the timer reaches zero. If anyone has already mentioned all of this, feel free to delete my remarks. --UserWarthog 02:32, 17 Aug 2004 (PDT)

No, Dana originally had that counting down to when she left for China, the entity infecting the site hijacked the countdown script. Nothing more sinister! --UserSherpa 03:10, 17 Aug 2004 (PDT)

Potential Puzzle: Bee Dances. Scientists think that bees communicate the direction and richness of food sources (flowers) with "dances." The two bees in the title bar of most pages at ILB seem to be dancing a figure 8 pattern, which could be a reference to the so-called "waggle dance" of bees. I did some searching on the net, but couldn't find any way to interpret the drawing. A little far fetched, perhaps, but I thought I'd throw it out there for others to look into.
-
Potential Puzzle: Unlinked /404 files. Removing all the files, with invalid extensions, in the root of the site shows part of the cursor swarm code in beeswarm.js. The folders are named for part of the code in the countdowntochina javascript.

I'm not sure about this, but I was using Site Sucker
http://www.sitesucker.us/ to get all of the audio files on ilovebees.com. It begins by checking a file called "robots.txt", first seeing if it exists, and if so, if there's any special considerations a bot has to take when downloading a website. Well, plug in
http://www.ilovebees.com/robots.txt and you get something interesting, to say the least. It even links to another page:
http://www.ilovebees.com/onceuponatime.html Does this have any significance? -CountRoland
(Addendum: A robots.txt file is usually pretty benign.; witness
http://www.gutenberg.net/robots.txt. Its just some web code, typically. Site Sucker worked like it usually does, so it didn't choke on the wacky ilovebees' robots.txt file.)

The link to robots.txt is nonexistent, it's the Sleeping Princess's 404 page.

GpsCoordinates on the links page on multiple pages at
ilovebees.com (Phase 3 & on) - thus far, these have led us to various locations of payphones across the United States (and one in London). We arrive at the time listed, and receive a phonecall from Melissa/Operator/Queen. Each time, we must answer her a question to prove that we are her crewmates.
