Well, to everyone who asked what I thought about the August 24th countdown:
I think it's been discovered now.
Rearrange the letters in:
HALT - MODULE CORE HEMORRHAGE SYSTEM PERIL DISTRIBUTED REFLEX. STRONG INTRUSIVE INCLINATION. COUNTDOWN TO WIDE AWAKE AND PHYSICAL :
And you get:
INDEX THIS IRONCLAD PREDICTION : HALO TWO SINGLE PLAYER DEMO CD-ROM DISK INCURSION AT AUGUST TWENTY FOUR. EARTH WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
This message from Max Hoberman in the Weekly Friday Update for Bungie appears to categorically disconfirm the validity of this anagram. http://forums.videogames.co.nz/index.php?s=eae32dd8cdcc028de2829abe21453954&showtopic=5126
Excising the relevant text: '...Nor will we release a playable demo, anytime soon...'
Statistical note: Given a 100-character or more phrase like this one, it's possible to anagram nearly anything you want to see from it. For instance, I can pull out "HALO TWO HAS BEEN CANCELLED. YOU ARE ALL HUGE SUCKERS." and still have approx 75 characters to work with.
Alternate anagram: <pre> EDITED FOR DISCORD LIKE MRS. PURRIV: HALO TWO HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO NO INTEREST TROUT -
YOU CAN MIX ANYTHING WITH LARGE SAMPLES
I WIN. </pre>
See? It really doesn't mean anything. Apologies to any Purrivs out there.
Also, 'CD-ROM' is a problem because demo disks are apparently DVD's.
Using a perl script I checked ips for all below list and only found:
BELIEVESO com: 220.127.116.11 BELIEVESO com: 18.104.22.168 as having resolvable addresses I checked for .com, .org, and .net
Believeso.com was registered on 08-Mar-2000 to dang lichu (email@example.com) in Fremont, CA. There is a phone number which has an answering machine message that does not appear to be in-game. I just portscanned it and the only port open was 80. A web request revealed the server was "Netscape-Enterprise/6.0" and returned only a 302 redirection to 22.214.171.124. Obviously the domain was not created for the game, but it could have been co-opted for it. 126.96.36.199 seems to be another Pac Bell Internet Services box--didn't we decide one of the Puppet Masters was using Pac Bell Internet?--and may be related to Rolando B Rosler. --UserZudini 17:29, 30 Jul 2004 (PDT)
Remember, the letters did not come attached to eachother. Maybe there are other sites we are to find? Here are possible anagrams created from ilovebees (courtesy of http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/ ). The word believe stands out in my mind the most. I don't have the time to test these out at the moment... but it would be most helpful if somebody else would:<br><br>

I tried a whole slew of these yesterday with no luck. One interesting anagram of note: ILOVEBESS.COM is an anagram for "Become So Evil."--UserKidrich 11:38, 26 Jul 2004 (PDT)
Don't know if this means anything, but maybe it will get gears turning for other people.
I used the above site to get anagrams for "efendi" and "margaret". Best bets were "define" and "tara germ", respectively.
Looking up "tara germ" on google turns up a bunch of stuff about animal feed, but looking up "tara" on wikipedia yielded the following info: <ol> <li>Tara is another name for Devi, the supreme hindu mother goddess.</li> <li>Devi is depicted as having 8 arms (hmm, like a spider...)</li> <li>One arm carries a sword</li> <li>Devi is also the goddess of death</li> </ol> Also from Hindu mythology:
<em>Tara is wife of Brihaspati (the planet Jupiter). She was kidnapped by Chandra (the moon). After a battle, Brahma forced Chandra to give her back, but she was already pregnant with Budha (the planet Mercury).</em>
Furthermore, looking up "dana" on wikipedia turned up the following: <ol> <li>Dana is another name for Danu, another Hindu goddess.</li> <li>She is the primordial goddess of waters, present at the creation.</li> </ol>
Anagrams of the mis-spelled "varrao mites"
If this is indeed the Tara Germ, perhaps...
<pre> TARAS MOVER I IS TARA MOVER IM TARA ROSE V IM TARA SERVO </pre>
Or even better still
<pre> MOVE SIR, TARA </pre>
I also like
<pre> MARS AI OVERT I ROVE AT MARS I VOR ATE MARS </pre>
<pre> SMARTER OVA I </pre>
But the best one so far refers to the "Phasmids" Mayday message:
<pre> sto-ma n. pl. sto-ma-ta or stomas
Botany. One of the minute pores in the epidermis of a leaf or
stem through which gases and water vapor pass. Also called stomate.
Anatomy. A small aperture in the surface of a membrane.
A surgically constructed opening, especially one in the abdominal
wall that permits the passage of waste after a colostomy or ileostomy.
Zoology. A mouthlike opening, such as the oral cavity of a nematode.
[New Latin, from Greek, mouth.] </pre>
not sure if this has been stated anywhere yet (i couldn't find anything when i looked) but in the mayday message, the person on the beach (the Operator, if i understand correctly) says "Phasmidia Elegans, they call me-scourge of the sandbox". you can pull the name Melissa out of Phasmidia Elegans, and you're left with the letters "phdia egan". i'm trying to figure out if those can be rearranged to spell anything that would fit with Melissa, but i haven't found anything yet. if anyone thinks this is a viable lead, any help would be appreciated. - SnareRushJunkie July 30th 5:51 PM Central
* Playing around with those letters, the two major words I managed were 'hide' and 'pagan'. Of course, other things that can be spelled include 'dana', 'dine', 'paid', 'pine', 'pain', 'age'. But this made me want to hunt for exactly what Phasmidia Elegans, together, meant or could mean. I couldn't find a single place on the net where those two words were used together. In the end, while I wouldn't put a lot of weight into anagramming it I also wouldn't rule it out as something to think about. - RevHibiki
'Margaret Efendi', (Aunt Margaret) is an anagram for 'a reader figment'. Not positive how likely this is coincidence or intentional. Any one know about the roots (ethnicity) of 'Efendi'? Seemed odd to me which is why i anagramed it. more anagrams of the name here
Margret Efendi is also an anagram for 'Fine, great dream', which wasn't in that website. (above post)
Sorry I'm just getting the hang of this now and I posted this already elsewhere but I'm going to add it here now that I've found my way. Margaret Efendi is also an anagram for "meet a friend ARG"
